Teachers are an important part of your school. When a teacher teaches in a class, the stats of students in that room may raise. Having 1 teacher for each classroom is preferable. You must have adequate space in your teacher room to hire a new teacher, or else you'll have to fire a teacher to make room for the new hire. Each teacher room can hold 4 teachers, and you can only have 2 teacher rooms total, for a total of 8 teachers.

While more expensive teachers are generally better than lower-payed teacher, this is not always the case. Also, while an expensive teacher may have better stats, it may be a worse deal, as the cost per point may be over twice as much, despite being only being a few points better.
