Development is the act of creating games within the game, and it is your main source of income, items, and perhaps staff.

Platforms[]

After you select Start Development, you first pick your platform, and your staff will begin to generate proposals that you can stock for later or turn into games right away. The platforms are as follows:

Hardware[]

Once proposals are generated, or if you select to use your stock, you can pick one of up to four hardware options depending on what the platform supports. You can also rename your game at this step if you desire. However, it is generally recommended to stick with the PC because the differences in outcomes for better platforms are small, while the stamina cost is large, and stamina can be better used on acquiring co-op companies and seeking rare items via development of challenges, higher-quality genres, or outsourcing. The hardware options are as follows:

Name Stamina Cost User Count Games per +1 Knowhow Idea +HP at 0 Knowhow Idea +HP at 100 Knowhow Idea +Power at 0 Knowhow Idea +Power at 100 Knowhow
PC 0 15,000,000 2 10 1500 3 0
Mobile 4 82,000,000 4 300 3500 18 10
Smartphone 8 103,000,000 8 2800 5500 38 28
All Platforms 15 200,000,000 16 5500 9900 65 55

Development Strategies[]

After selecting the hardware, you are offered three choices of development strategy. The cost is based on the platform you chose (see the Platforms table above), your familiarity with that platform, and whether you selected a Challenge proposal.

If you select "Free-to-Play and Long Term," you can continue collecting money for that game every 30 minutes after the usual sales event completes. The 30-minute timer resets as soon as you collect the money, but the funds you get are based on a whole number multiple of half-hours that have elapsed, e.g., if you wait 31-59 minutes, you will get the same amount of money, so you're effectively losing 29 minutes' worth of earnings in the latter case. Thus, you can generate money faster if you set a timer or wait a few hours in between collections.

When rewards are doubled during weekends, the doubling on Long-Term games' earnings happens after the earnings limit is applied, e.g., you can collect up to 82,000 dollars at once when your earnings limit is 41,000. Once you've produced 50 more games after a Long-Term one, the Long-Term one will start to say "No games" when you click its "Game Info" button, and if you restart the app after finishing that 50th game, the Long-Term one will disappear from the "games currently being managed" list and will stop generating funds.

Idea Combinations[]

After your staff's initial battle with the genre, you have to choose a Game Content idea, later followed by a Development Method idea. The level of compatibility between these ideas and the genre is a major factor in the resulting game's quality. See this Google sheet for the letter grade of any Genre + Game Content combination (B is the maximum) and the grade modifier for any Genre + Development Method combination. You can also double the benefits of high-quality combinations by having a team member who has both the best job type for that genre and the Mix 'n' Match skill. You can grant a staff member the Mix 'n' Match skill via a scroll obtained by Outsourcing if you cannot find a staff member with the right job.

Repeatedly reusing the same idea, sequentially or otherwise, has no detrimental effects. However, using the same genre, game content, and development method consecutively causes a negative event being included in the game release roulette. On your third repeat, the "Seen as a boring rehash" (-30% downloads) event is added, and on your fifth repeat, the "Didn't appeal to users" (-70% downloads) event is added. Making a single game with a different genre, content, or method breaks the combo and removes those detrimental events from the roulette.

Releasing your game with at least one bug also adds similar (and several more) negative events, and the chance of landing on a negative event increases the more bugs you have, reaching a maximum chance at 100 bugs.

Ideas[]

You can remove the usage count limit on all ideas by enhancing them with either of two items named Limitless Ideas once you have a second floor in your development studio. Similarly, you can enhance the star rank of any idea up to 5 via either of the Creativity Boost items. Enhancing genres with Creativity Boost--especially the Cards and Playing Cards genres--is not recommended because it increases the stamina cost of using that genre.
