Exploration in Doraemon Dorayaki Shop Story is the main method of obtaining and unlocking new ingredients and dessert bases for your recipes.
Mechanics[]
New locations are unlocked as the player increases their store rank. Locations can also include a number of special events, boss battles, or customer recruiting opportunities for your shop.
The main purpose of exploration is to receive additional ingredients, unlock new bases, and to receiving dessert base books which can be used to greatly increase your desserts' stats.
Types of Events[]
- Battles: The player is attacked by a boss & their minions in a turn-based battle. The only actions the player can take are using Special Gadgets they have purchased that can either increase your characters' stats or reduce the stats of the opponent. Your party's HP is determined by the number of medals they have won in dessert competitions or, later in the game, the business minigame request. There are also Special Gadgets which give you additional party members that can also act as a type of "shield", as the enemies' attacks penetrate the first party members more than the ones further back. The player must defeat all enemies in order to proceed in the exploration - usually the second ingredient in any given location is locked behind the battle sequence.
- Boxes: Each location contains a number of boxes which require your exploring party member to have a sufficiently high Exploration skill to unlock them. Typically these will include a Charm increasing item or occasionally a facility. If the exploration skill check is failed, it can be repeated on subsequent visits, but and is not repeatable once opened.
- Stray Animals: Several locations contain a stray animal event which, if the correct party member is used for the exploration (indicated by a ! above the character's head on the exploration menu screen), a stray animal will appear in the Vacant Lot which can then be housed in the Wallpaper Doghouse facility, granting bonus rep and charm.
- Works: Some works can be found only by exploration, which will unlock new customers after being purchased with F points.
- Help: A manga-style cutscene in which the player must choose an appropriate customer to help someone with a difficulty. If they choose appropriately, they will receive an item reward that they can then gift to their customers for increased satisfaction.
- Looking for: The party will encounter a character who is "looking for" another customer. If the player has unlocked the customer they are looking for, the person they encountered will become a passer by they can then invite with their favourite sweets.
- Yodoba: The player encounters Yodoba, an equivalent to Pumpkin of Pumpkin Products in other Kairosoft games. The player will be able to purchase up to 3 facilities from him, with new facilities available with each additional encounter. If the player does not purchase 3 items in the visit, they will be able to purchase the remainder via the Yodoba Store in the ingame menu.
