Hippari!! Neko Banchou was a platformer, where you control a cat who must make it to the top of a multi-story building. The game was released on February 13th, 2015 (Android) and April 13th, 2015 (iOS) respectively, but was removed from both app stores less than a year later and is no longer available on any platform.

The title roughly translates to "Dragging!! Cat Rebel", with Hippari (ひっぱり), literally "dragging", refering to the game's unique, touch-centric platforming control scheme compared to Kairosoft's typical simulation releases, and was the company's first platformer release.

Tutorial[]

Overview[]

The game is entirely touch-based, with no softkey availability. It is a Free to Play game which features in-game banner ads.

You play as one of five varieties of cat, whose goal is to reach a female cat on the roof of a multi-story building. The game is controlled by dragging down on your phone or tablet screen, which brings up an arrow that indicates which direction the cat will jump, and with how much power. As soon as the cat makes their first jump, the screen begins to scroll up, and if the cat touches the bottom of the screen or falls off a platform the player loses a life. With the correct timing, you can also combo jump, although you risk breaking platforms with your head if you hit a platform instead of landing on it. Collecting fish raises a fish gauge that, when filled, allows you to jump very high using Super Cat Jump. Each stage has different layouts of platforms and obstacles to navigate to reach the top, including crows (which make you drop your collected coins), moving platforms, and iron blocks (which are insurpassable, except with Cat Food or the Tabby Cat). Additional stages are unlocked when the previous level is completed. You can collect coins as you play, which can be used to purchase power ups or new breeds of cat that have bonus abilities.

In-Game Manual[]

You can drag down on the screen from anywhere! Make the cat jump and aim for the rooftop of the building! Collect as many coins as you can from the stages! The coins you collect can be used in the shop. When the cat jumps, wait for the moment it starts to rotate and make it jump again! If you can jump again in the air, you've succeeded in a combo jump. Eating your favorite fish will fill up your fish gauge. When the gauge is at MAX, it's time to activate the Super Cat Jump! If you perform consecutive combo jumps successfully, you will receive a combo bonus! If you master the combo jump, you will be able to move through the air even in places where there are no blocks. Hearts are consumed each time you play the game, and one will be restored every 7 minutes. You can also buy hearts in the shop. Selecting an item at the start of the game will improve your cat's abilities. This is especially effective for stages that are difficult to clear. Once you've saved up enough coins, make sure to use the shop! There are a variety of items to make the game easier to progress through.

Trivia[]

  • "Banchou" roughly translates to the leader of a gang of delinquents. However, this can have a bit of a more "romanticized" view in Japan than how delinquent is often viewed in English. As such, "rebel" is used to carry a more "romanticized" feel.
